New Multi-Purpose Community Centre Announced for the Town of Forteau

A cost-shared agreement of more than $2 million between the Provincial Government and the Town of Forteau will help support the construction of a new multi-purpose community centre in the town.

The project will involve the construction of an open space hall which will be used as a multi-purpose community space and performance space. By including a gym floor in the space, it can also be used for recreational activities such as ball hockey, basketball, children's games and seniors' recreation activities, as well as family events.

Budget 2023 includes more than $161 million for community infrastructure projects under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and for projects under the Municipal Capital Works Program.

Municipal infrastructure is very important to the quality of life of residents in our towns and communities all throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. I am very happy to join Minister Dempster to announce funding for a new multi-purpose community centre to be built here in the Town of Forteau. Planning can move ahead for this new facility, and we look forward to ongoing collaboration with the Town of Forteau.”

Honourable John G. Abbott

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure

“People should feel like they are part of something larger than themselves, and that they have a place where they belong. Multi-purpose centres within municipalities create a strong sense of community, where there is social interaction and engagement.”

Honourable Lisa Dempster

Minister of Labrador Affairs, Minister Responsible for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation and MHA for Cartwright – L’Anse au Clair

“A multi-purpose community centre is welcome news for our town. We are pleased to partner with the Provincial Government on this project, recognizing the value that such a space brings to the town and its people.”

His Worship Dean Flynn

Mayor of Forteau
