Public Health Reminds of the Importance of Physical Activity for Seniors

Updated: Apr 17, 2023

LOCAL NEWS - MAY 17, 2021: NORTH SHORE – Seniors keeping fit and staying active

There are significant health benefits seen in adults aged 65 years and older who participate in regular physical activity. Brisk walking, jogging, biking, dancing, and swimming are great forms of activity, but also moving around your home and doing daily chores can be considered important activity as well if you are able to do so.

Older adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week, 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity each week, or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity. When chronic conditions make it hard to achieve the 150 minutes each week, older adults should be physically active as their abilities and conditions allow.
